Barbara R. Greenberg, founder and president, provides the
strategic vision and organizational direction that has served many
foundations in a wide range of areas including children and youth, child
welfare policy, aging, social services, education, healthcare, community
building, arts and the environment. As a respected leader in philanthropy,
Greenberg designs foundation grantmaking strategies, develops innovative
local and national grant programs, and works extensively in collaboration
with other funders across the country. Her clients range from start-up
foundations to those with billions in assets.
With over 25 years' experience, she has served in the private,
nonprofit and public sectors, in diverse roles including as an officer of
a major national financial services company, executive director of a
family foundation, and a board member of regional and national nonprofits.
Greenberg's award-winning corporate programs at The Travelers Companies
generated national recognition for their benefit to employees and
retirees. Her other experience includes serving as executive director for
a countywide nonprofit counseling center, consultant to city and state
governments, and compensation analyst for a major national
corporation.
Throughout her career Greenberg has played leadership roles in local
and national grantmaker groups, including New York Regional Association of
Grantmakers, Council on Foundations, and Grantmakers in Aging. She has
planned, moderated, and presented at numerous local, national, and
international conferences and foundation retreats, and has co-authored a
book on grantmaking trends published by the Foundation Center. She is
author of a text describing how to develop a grantmaking strategy, which
is published as part of a tool kit by Grantmakers in Aging.
Greenberg earned a B.A. cum laude in English Literature from Boston
University, and M.S.W. from the University of Connecticut, School of
Social Work in Hartford, Connecticut.
